Background on PPHEIA
Putting Public Health Evidence in Action (PPHEIA) is a training series originally developed by the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN).
Adapting PPHEIA
The University of Iowa Prevention Research Center for Rural Health (UI PRC-RH) adapted the original PPHEIA training to make it more accessible for and relevant to rural and micropolitan public health practitioners and community-based organization staff.
The adaptation process involved surveying public health practitioners and community-based organization staff in Iowa to assess the supports and challenges to implementing evidence-based interventions (EBIs) in micropolitan communities. The UI PRC-RH also engaged its State Advisory bBoard to get their input on what changes needed to be made to the original training to make it more accessible for and relevant to micropolitan communities. This included adding real life examples of an EBI being implemented in a micropolitan community.
Overview of UI PRC-RH PPHEIA
The training series is divided into 6 modules that build off one another to cover how to identify, adapt, implement, and evaluate EBIs.
