Young Asian woman

Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) youth report some of the highest rates of sexual violence. Monsoon Asians and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (Monsoon) has received Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) funding from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services to implement a youth sexual violence prevention program (YVPP). Monsoon serves AAPI communities in Iowa and partnered with the Prevention Research Center for Rural Health (PRC-RH) to design an AAPI-specific logic model and evaluation for their YVPP.

Description

Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) youth experience disproportionately high rates of sexual violence. To help prevent this and other sexual violence, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control’s (CDC’s) Rape Prevention Education (RPE) program provides funding to state and territorial health departments to plan, implement, and evaluate sexual violence prevention strategies. These efforts are carried out in collaboration with state Sexual Assault Coalitions.

In Iowa, Monsoon Asians and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (Monsoon) received RPE funding from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (Iowa HHS) to launch a youth-focused sexual violence prevention program. Monsoon serves AAPI communities across the state.

To support this work, the CDC’s RPE program developed a general logic model to help grantees plan and evaluate their programs. However, these models often aren’t tailored to specific cultural contexts. Recognizing this, the Iowa HHS and Monsoon reached out to Prevention Research Center for Rural Health (PRC-RH) to design an AAPI-specific logic model and evaluation. Logic models are critical tools for guiding program development, implementation, and evaluation, but they’re most effective when they reflect the unique context in which the programs/intervention will be delivered. Using a community-engaged approach, Monsoon leadership, youth staff, and PRC-RH staff co-designed the logic model and evaluation methodology.
